Whitlock Wants to Follow Australian Adventure with Glory Charge

Simon Whitlock has signalled his intention to finish the year with a flourish after enjoying a hero’s return to his native Australia in August.

Whitlock may have lost out to eventual winner Phil Taylor in the semi-finals of the inaugural Sydney Darts Masters but insists that a visit to his homeland has given his confidence a huge boost.

‘The Wizard’, who has climed up to fourth in the PDC Order of Merit with some consistently strong performances, believes he is ready to enter a golden period in his career.

“The reception I got back home was incredible,” said the Australian ace, who’s only major title to date came at the 2012 European Championship.

“Not only during the Sydney Masters but just walking the streets. I was constantly getting stopped for photos and autographs. It was a brilliant feeling.

“Darts has gone mad in Australia and I’m proud of the part I’m playing in that. Being there has given me a real boost and I’m feeling really confident going into the rest of the season.

“I’m playing well and have got so much support. There is a good run of major tournaments coming up and I am determined to get my hands on another title as soon as possible.”
