World Darts Championship: Whitlock To Take Positives

Simon Whitlock has vowed to come back stronger after losing out at the semi-final stage of the World Championship.

‘The Wizard’ was defeated by Peter Wright on Monday but still rose to a career-high of third place on the PDC Order of Merit.

And the Australian admitted he was devestated not to reach his second Alexandra Palace final but knows that there are plenty of positives to take into 2014.

“I tried my hardest and I wasn’t good enough,” said Whitlock, the former European Champion.

“Peter was the better player on the day against me and he took out the big shots at the right times.

“I defended the prize money from two years ago. It is gut-wrenching to go out and not reach the final but Peter has been class throughout.

“I’m close to being satisfied with my year on the whole. I believe I will be a World Champion one day, I’ve got close again this year but it will only make me strive to do better.”
