Simon Whitlock missed out on a place in the final of Sunday’s Bet Victor World Matchplay final after losing out 17-13 to Michael van Gerwen on Saturday in Blackpool.
The Australian, who led 7-5 and levelled the match at twelve all, was powerless to prevent the world number one pulling away to seal victory.
‘The Wizard’, who defeated Kevin Painter, Raymond van Barneveld and James Wade in a successful campaign to reach the last four, will now turn his attentions to a return to his home land, with World Series events in Sydney and Perth taking place in August.
