Simon Whitlock finished top of Group G to go through to the Grand Slam of Darts knockout stage despite a 5-4 defeat to Wes Newton on Monday evening.
The Australian’s place in the last 16 had actually already been sealed before he took to the stage to face Newton, thanks to weekend wins over Ross Smith and Mark Webster, who also progressed from the round robin.
‘The Wizard’ will face Ted Hankey on Wednesday night for a place in the quarter-finals.
