SIMON WHITLOCK 5-1 Mark Webster
Simon Whitlock grabbed his second win in as many matches at the Grand Slam of Darts to cement pole position in Group G, as he defeated Mark Webster on Sunday afternoon in Wolverhampton.
Whitlock produced a brilliant performance to triumph 5-1 against the former BDO World Champion, with the Australian ace averaging 108.78 in the victory.
‘The Wizard’ took out 72 to win the first leg and followed one fine finish with another, completing a 122 combination on the bull to double his lead.
The first of four 180s helped move Whitlock further ahead with a 13-darter but Webster pulled a leg back with a 96 checkout.
The world number four took out 81 to move within a leg of victory, which he sealed in a leg that saw him hit seven perfect darts before the eighth treble towards perfection eluded him.
Whitlock, who had already defeated Ross Smith, faces Wes Newton on Monday, when a win would guarantee his place in the last 16.
