Premier League Darts: Whitlock Braced for ‘Must Win’ Encounter

Determined Simon Whitlock has admitted he must adopt a win-or-bust attitude as he attempts to keep his Premier League dream alive in Leeds on Thursday.

The Wizard of Oz is battling hard to climb into the top eight of the 10-man field ahead of the elimination stage in three matches time.

Whitlock knows his hopes of survival will be all but over if he fails to defeat Dave Chisnall in front of an estimated crowd of 11,000 as the tournament visits Leeds for the first time.

“It’s a huge game for me, the biggest of the Premier League season so far,” said Whitlock.

“Dave is currently in eighth position and I’m two points behind him so if I can get the victory, I will have a great chance of getting where I need to be at the end of week nine.

“I know it’s pretty much a must-win game for me and I will be approaching it like it’s a knockout match.

“I’m feeling good about the game and I just can’t wait for it to get underway now. It’s going to be a fantastic night in front of a huge crowd so let’s bring it on.”

Illness put Whitlock on the back foot at the start of the Premier League season but he still believes he can survive Judgement Night in Cardiff next month.

“My form in the floor tournaments has been pretty good so if I can transfer that onto the Premier League stage, I know I can get the wins I need,” he added.

“I’m under pressure to win matches over the next three weeks but I will certainly come out battling hard.”
