SIMON WHITLOCK believes that his first round clash at the World Matchplay provides a perfect platform to showcase Australian darts.
The Wizard takes on World Cup team-mate Kyle Anderson at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens on Monday – and is determined to show that he is still Australia’s top player.
“I think it’s a great draw for both of us and for Australia,” said Whitlock, who will be returning to his homeland for next month’s World Series of Darts events down under.
“I’ve been the number one in Australia for a long time now and that is something I’m very proud of. Kyle and I took great pride in representing our country together and we will both see this match as another opportunity to fly the flag for Australia.
“It’s a huge tournament and one I really enjoy but this match adds a little extra spice because I want to show that I’m still the top player from Australia.”
Whitlock has enjoyed a resurgence of late, picking up five PDC titles since October.
