Simon Whitlock produced an excellent performance to move into the second round of the World Matchplay with a convincing win against Jelle Klaasen but couldn’t progress further after Ian White fought back to deny him in a place in the last eight.
The world number nine, who reached the semi-finals last year, rediscovered his form to defeat Klaasen 10-4 and looked set to keep it going when he led White 9-6 but the Stoke thrower won seven straight legs to win.
