Simon Whitlock is confident he can overcome a slow start to the Premier League campaign to mount a challenge for a play-off position.
The Wizard of Oz – who was suffering from an ear infection during the early part of the Premier League season – is still searching for his first points of the season after losing his first three matches.
But, ahead of his meeting with Phil Taylor in Glasgow on Thursday, Waterlooville-based Whitlock remains convinced he can hit a winning streak to propel him up the table.
“The start has been disappointing but the good thing about the Premier League is there is still plenty of time to turn it around,” said Whitlock, the world number three.
“The aim is to be in the top eight after the first nine weeks and then push on towards the top four and both targets are still very achievable.
“I know I need to get a few wins under my belt pretty quickly but there is still a long way to go and a lot of darts to be thrown.”
Whitlock faces Taylor with the 16-time World Champion also still pointless after three games.
“It’s a surprise because you don’t expect to see Phil in that position but it just shows the quality on display in the Premier League,” he added.
“I know it’s going to be a very tough game against Phil but I reached the last 16 one day and the quarter-finals on another in the UK Open qualifiers at the weekend and that has given me a real boost.
“I can’t wait to get going now on Thursday night.”
